Jonathon Royal is a quality supervisor at a tier-one automotive plant in northeast Indiana, where he runs inspection crews on the line. He comes from a manufacturing family: a mother who spent her whole career in plants, a father who drove truck, and a grandfather who engineered at Zollner in Fort Wayne.
He writes forensic nonfiction the way an auditor works a finding: start with what is actually happening, trace it back to the decision that caused it, and name the gap. His books cover private equity and the plant floor, labor and pensions, policing, reentry after incarceration, and the psychology people use to survive all of it.
